Bobby Moore = The Man In Full
Apologies if this thread has been done before but I just finished reading the book 'Bobby Moore The Man In Full'.

I found it a fascinating read (presuming that the books facts are correct) about a man who loved the game, was heralded a hero and carried himself with a rare class on the pitch. Off the pitch I couldn't believe the extent of his boozing (different era I suppose), being done for drink driving as well as his many businesses after football which went to pot for various reasons.

I knew of the Cloughie link but I also had no idea he had plans to move to Spurs nor did he have such a fractured relationship with Ron Greenwood.

The fact he was ostracized from the higher circles of football once his playing days were over suggests a huge personal agenda against a man who might not of been a great coach but certainly a great ambassador for the game.

Did anyone change their opinion of Bobby (even slightly) upon reading any of this?

Mine has not but it nice to be able to delve into the life of a man I looked up to as a boy and in many cases now, still do!

I understand why he's heralded as our greatest son because of his success, significance to the game both for club and country and he is an icon of the game. However, and this just my opinion, Sir Trevor Brooking and Billy Bonds are more than just club legends, but equals if not more.

I never asked the question before, but did Moore support West Ham? And was his eagerness to move to Spurs purely professional? Martin Peters is still looked upon fondly and he played for Spurs.

To be fair I think most people, whilst admiring Peters, never look upon him as they would Moore, Hurst, Brooking, Bonds etc

'I never asked the question before, but did Moore support West Ham?'

He was from East Ham (and went to school in Barking, I think), so at that time almost certainly, yes, I would have thought.

There weren't very many 'Cockney Reds' or other such wankers in those days.

Must admit I had no idea about his relationship with Greenwood until that Tina & Booby programme.

It's a shame as you want to think of two such great heroes as being like father and son. If we ever find out that BFS and Nolan didn't get on, I'm done.

I had to stop having children after the first two boys as I'd used his first two names and certainly wasn't going to carry on the tradition with the third.

Greenwood couldn't stand Bobby Moore the man, in fact it bordered dislike, once asked about Moore he said he could talk forever about Moore the footballer.
Moore the man, he had nothing to say, says it all, thought that was common knowledge

he was a human being not a god. He wasnt treated at all well by West Ham which makes all this hero worship by our current owners turn my stomach. It is purely for commerce and nothing to do with the man. He should have been looked after when he was alive you avaricious cretins!!
